I really do think that there is nothing better than an antagonist who is a woman hell bent on revenge.
I think that's why I've always been to Claire Underwood in House of Cards (you know, before Kevin Spacey shattered my heart by being DISGUSTING).
Claire is cunning, calculated, observant, and so damn charming. Honestly, I kinda forgot about her for a while and when I started on Banks's character, I really wanted to model her after someone strong and delightfully unhinged. Robin Wright plays these parts so fucking flawlessly!!!
So yes. Claire Underwood is my inspiration for Isabelle Banks. They're cut from the same cloth, and I don't doubt you'll find a soft spot for her. Maybe. I don't know. Probably not.
Just know, she won't disappoint 😉

Oh, just live a little, Parker.
He's been in love with his best friend's little sister since he was an asshole teenager. She's the forbidden fruit, the object of all his desires. So what's it matter if they've hid their relationship for the last two years?
Surely if their families don't kill them once they come clean, the man hunting them will.

For those of you who have served and currently serving, thank you! We are so grateful for everything you've done for us and our country. We can never understand truly what you went through, and I will never take that sacrifice for granted.
Henry Miller once said, “Chaos is the score upon which reality is written.”
Henry was a literary innovator. One who could write stories out of thin air. My father adored him. He went as far as quoting him constantly, finding any piece of his narrative to fit one of Miller’s.
𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘰𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘶𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯.
I was shoved into a burning warehouse where I was to meet death.
Only, death never showed.
𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘰𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘶𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯.
The man I bared my soul to, the one who fathered my child, worked as death’s right hand.
He went on to become a father to three other children. A husband to a woman who had no idea of the killer he really was. A hero to a small town in which I perished.
𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘰𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘶𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯.
I was thrown away. My child, abandoned.
He lived. He lived a long, full life, and hasn’t atoned for his sins yet.
𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘰𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘶𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯.
It’s time for the McKenzies to live my hell. It’s time for Stephen to lose everything the same way I did.
𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘯, 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘺, 𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘯.

Okay, so I have a quirk as a writer.
When I'm writing, I am extremely protective of my manuscript. Mostly because my first drafts are always a dumpster fire (this has a lot to do with my process and how I want to change something, I make a note and move on.) So needless to say, I don't use alpha readers.
Side note: I would be super okay if nobody read my work (haha hello, avoidance attachment style! There you are!). I write for me--for the peeps hanging out in my head. But really, it is so much sweeter when there are readers out there who can relate to your characters and fall in love with them the way I did.
Okay, back on topic.
You know my journey with Nate's book. I've written and restarted. Even finished the damn book and then taking a giant axe to it and starting over from scratch. Many call this perfectionism, I call it, these characters are playing coy and not giving me the goods. Kidding, sort of.
Nate and Eve spawned the very moment I started writing Aria and Derek. That's right, book #1 of the Sage Creek Series. Here we are at book 5--the tail end of Sage Creek.
I'm very blessed to have Kimberly in my life. She is my editor, @parkermayneeditorial, in case you were wondering. She's been with the series from the beginning and I knew I needed a fresh set of eyes because I think I desensitized myself to all the twists that this story holds. In all my years of writing, I finally allowed someone to read the raw, unedited, messy, but always fun first draft (up to the midpoint, of course since I'm still working on it).
Dudes. I can't wait for you to read this. I cannot WAIT for you to jump on this emotional roller coaster. We're going out with a bang, y'all (ya'll).
Yes, Hi, Hello. I realize that No Newsletter November is not a thing, but I'm a dork for alliteration 🙃.
I'm alive and I know I've been SUPER flakey on the socials over the last two weeks, but I promise, I'm fine.
So yes. There is no newsletter this month--mostly because I don't really have anything new to report, but also because I don't want to send a newsletter for the sake of sending a boring ass newsletter.
1. You don't need the spam
2. The only thing I can report is that I'm dedicating all my free time and attention to Nate so that I can get him out early 2025.
Bear me with me y'all (ya'll). I'm doing my best!
If you see me lurking on the socials, please feel free to message me and tell me to get my ass in gear. But if you don't see any posts from me over the next week or two, this is a good thing. I'm bound and determined to give you the best version of Nate. You deserve it. Nate and Eve deserve it. And you know what? So does Banks. She needs an epic ending.
Sooo. There's your update. Back to the cave I go!
"Looking at you now, it looks like you don't know what the hell you're doing either," I snap
"I never claimed I did," she sobs. "Looking at you breaks my heart, Jay. I hoped and prayed that you would somehow find yourself with me being away. I know you didn't need the distraction. Obviously, it didn't matter if I was here or not."

Ready to sit in some angst?
Out of My Mind is Part 2 in the Jay and Annie duet. I tore your heart apart in the first part. Will I put you back together again or will I drag the pain out again? 😈

Did I ever tell you how much of a SUCKER I am for second chance romances?
I love writing them. I love sitting in that angst (you know, when it’s not my own angst I’m sitting in) and creating as much tension as possible.
If you read MMD, then you know that Nate left Eve in a valiant effort to keep her off Dodge’s radar. So being in the first third of their book, the Sad Hour playlist on Spotify has been on a constant loop while I write.
I’m currently living Nate and Eve. I’m living Eve’s unbridled rage. I’m living Nate’s gut wrenching sacrifice.
So anywho, if you catch me in public and I’m crying, no you didn’t. We’re going through a lot over here! 😂
"I've been away for too long." His long fingers probe me, tracing my sl!it and coating them with my unbridled desire. "I want to know how my baby needs me to take care of her."

She rises from the dead, y’all (ya’ll)!
We got power back late last night—it was a little terrifying because I was dead asleep and all the sudden every single light in the house flicked on and Charlotte the dog lost her mind.
Our neighborhood took some significant damage. So much so that the kids are probably going to be out of school again this week.
We lost everything in our fridge and freezer, so my main focus is stocking up on what we lost.
And because you all know I constantly flex my avoidance attachment style, I’m throwing myself into Nate’s book with the intention on getting him finished by the end of the month. Make sure you’re subscribed to my newsletter because on November 1st, I plan on sharing the prologue there (you know, if @parkermayneeditorial says it isn’t at all a flaming hot pile of garbage)
Anywho, thank you for those who checked in on me, Aubs, and Lem. We sure felt the love ❤️
Okay. Back to work.
